Lets Go to Rutland Water 190.45 Miles

Rutland Water Safari 190.45 Miles

I departed from Boston along the National Cycle Route 1 (the big red 1). It was late afternoon so my destination for an overnight camp was Lincoln. The route from there was Newark, then onto Belvoir Castle. That wasn't on the route or plan, but as I could see it in the distance so I thought I would call by!
Having had a private, self guided tour of the castle grounds, I found it was closed!  I managed to find an open service gate which was closing! I then headed for Melton Mowbray, finding a campsite on the outskirts of the market town. I arrived in time to pitch my tent before the predicted downpour. Snug as a bug in a rug having had a hearty meal ( Pot Noodle). The heavens opened all night. The morning brought sunshine.  I remained completely dry and broke camp and headed off to Rutland Water taking in the scenic views along the route. I arrived at Rutland Water approximately midday after a few problems with a pannier rack that I repaired with some trusty cable ties. I toured around the lake during the afternoon along with hundreds of holiday makers doing the same, hiring bikes from local vendors. I found a camp site on the south shore on a farm that was adequate for my needs. An open camp site with running water. On arrival numerous caravans and motor home folks took pity on this lonesome cyclist and I was offered various refreshments including sausages and burgers. Get in!! All was received with great thanks, even a comfortable chair to sit in was brought to my pitch. I sat out in the evening and enjoyed the sunset and looked at my route back to Boston via Stamford, Spalding, Holbeach and up to Boston arriving home late evening. Fortunately, with a trailing wind pushing me home, two thirds of the way.
Here are some of the sites from this safari...
